SAPA, VIETNAM (2017)
I arrived in Dong Thap
on a quiet afternoon,
as if something was
gently waiting ahead.
I stayed for two days
and one night,
letting each moment
unfold on its own.
I met Lợi, a gentle kid
with a bright smile
and clear eyes.
When I asked,
‘What do you usually
do here in a day?”,
Lợi didn’t say much,
just invited me
to follow along.
We
flew kites across the fields,
visited the lotus pond,
wandered through quiet streets,
caught fish behind the house.
By evening,
I sat down for dinner
with the family,
listened to grandma’s stories,
and felt something inside me
soften.
I was no longer
a stranger.
In those small moments,
I became a part of
Lợi’s world-simple,
tender, and quietly
close.
